For many years, my work has explored the poetics of space, time, memory, and narrative, through the creation of photographic images dealing with my relationship with these concepts. As an immigrant, I am continually returning to contemplations on identity and home. I am inspired by nature, history, geology, poetry, and literature. They all tell stories of place and time and also acquire a mystical quality. The medium that I work in is photography, mainly film photography.

These photographs are a part of a body of work, Atargatis. The earliest known mermaid legends originate from Syria and around 1000 BC, where the Syrian goddess Atargatis transformed into a mermaid. During my time volunteering in Lesvos, Greece, I worked with many people seeking refuge, deepening my interest in the concept of home: people seeking refuge through the mystic sea, concealing what lies beneath and ahead.
