Danielle, from Tel Aviv, studied Dance and Education for her B.A. from the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, and has a Teaching Certificate. In her internship, Danielle was responsible for accompaniment and mentoring at-risk girls, providing them emotional support and building innovative educational projects with an emphasis on Women Empowerment. Following a Staff-Needs Assessment, she developed a unique program for staff and community members, integrating body-mind tools from the worlds of mindfulness, dance, and sports, that shapes and re-connects group circles of people living in the village. In addition, she was involved in conducting interviews for potential volunteers and staff members, participating in a strategic process for building an annual plan, and leading focus groups. She promoted local networks with relevant entities from different sectors, including the Education and Welfare Ministries; and together with a fellow student, she initiated a global partnership with the Kaima-Tanzania Youth Village. Glocal has provided Danielle with important tools from the interdisciplinary worlds of gender, ethics, economics, social innovation and entrepreneurship, monitoring and evaluation, project design, and more. These all greatly contributed to her internship experience and the expertise that she brought to the field.

The challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic have affected all of us, especially vulnerable populations. At-risk youth are seen here running together with their instructors, strengthening their mutual connection and trust. The framework is a unique Community Triathlon Annual Event, which enables the participants to foster their mental resilience through shared physical activity, performed in a supportive and embracing environment. The youth seems to be maintaining their positive spirit despite the ongoing crisis, gradually adapting to the changing environment. Photo credit: Yulia Yelsayev.
